Determining Your Setup

The "Setup" filter helps you to focus on those presets best-suited for how you use your Axe-Fx.

FRFR/Direct presets (like all of the Factory presets) are designed for "full-range flat-response" systems such as studio monitors, PAs, headphones, etc.

Pwr. Amp + Cab presets use real power amps and guitar speakers.

4-Cable Method (aka :4CM") presets require a special setup with connectors both in front of and in the effects loop of a real amp.

Fx Loop presets in the loop of a real amp. A loop may be SERIES or PARALLEL and the preset needs to be built accordingly.

Gtr Amp Input presets should be used in front of a (real) head or combo. Guitar->Axe-Fx->Amp Input.

Other setups also exist (e.g. combinations of the above).

The Axe-Fx II manual (chapter three) includes more information about setups.

"Cab" search results ignore the settings of this filter.

Fractal Product Axe-Fx II

Firmware Version 13.x

Set Up Direct

Description This patch is inspired by the type of 12 string bass that a few 70's players such as John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Greg Lake (Emerson Lake & Palmer), & Tom Petersson (Cheap Trick) used to play where a conventional 4 string bass was also strung with the lowest sounding 4 strings of a 12 string guitar so that a bass player could hold down three strings easily with one finger and get a three octave note. As such these players played these instruments very cleanly in terms of technique using a pick and no hammer-ons. If you do that with this patch, it's a pretty neat simulation, even if you strum chords. If you do not play clean, it will throw the pitch tracking off and you will get tracking atrifacts. If you play this patch with your fingers you will get more of an Oberheim-like synth bass effect. This patch uses all eight scenes. Scenes 7 & 8 feature no pitch effect and have at their heart the FAS Bass amp that I heavily modified including using a Wrecker tone stack. This patch was built using Firmware 13 and using my early 70's Hagstrom Swede (LP copy) bass and my 1980 Rickenbacker 4003 bass.
