Determining Your Setup

The "Setup" filter helps you to focus on those presets best-suited for how you use your Axe-Fx.

FRFR/Direct presets (like all of the Factory presets) are designed for "full-range flat-response" systems such as studio monitors, PAs, headphones, etc.

Pwr. Amp + Cab presets use real power amps and guitar speakers.

4-Cable Method (aka :4CM") presets require a special setup with connectors both in front of and in the effects loop of a real amp.

Fx Loop presets in the loop of a real amp. A loop may be SERIES or PARALLEL and the preset needs to be built accordingly.

Gtr Amp Input presets should be used in front of a (real) head or combo. Guitar->Axe-Fx->Amp Input.

Other setups also exist (e.g. combinations of the above).

The Axe-Fx II manual (chapter three) includes more information about setups.

"Cab" search results ignore the settings of this filter.

Set Up Direct

Description This is the unholy hi-gain marriage of the Marshall JVM orange channel and the Engl Powerball amps for the crunch channel. Depending upon which cabinet I marry it with in the preset along drive pedal, it reminds me at times of Jimmy Page, later era Tony Iommi, Billy Joe Armstrong, Adrian Smith, or NIN depending upon the guitar, scene, and playing technique. If you need more hi-gain roar rather than articulation, just turn up the level of the Powerball and you are there. For the clean channel scenes, I marry the Soldano clean channel and a Dumble clean channel. Very pretty. It reminds me of the clean channel of the Randall Lynch Box as it has that kind of glassiness that isn't ice pick-like, even with the unmodified stock bridge pickup of my '92 Fender American Standard Stratocaster. I use all the a/b states available for each block and many are tempo based as you switch through the scenes. The exception is scene 1, which is high gain and dry as the desert. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Cab 1 X & Cab 2 X use a custom Cab Lab recipe I call Marshall 2&4X12 Bonko Anderton, which you can find the recipe and source ir's to mix in this thread in post #7: http://forum.fractalaudio.com/axe-fx-ii-preset-exchange/85010-dr-bonkers-pressts-collection.html ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Cab 1 Y & Cab 2 Y use a Framus IR that Fremen posted here in post #70: http://forum.fractalaudio.com/axe-fx-ii-user-cabs-irs/81380-guitarhack-irs-ultrares-format-4.html ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This patch is good for alternative, rock, punk, industrial, metal bass as well. A couple of the scenes call to mind Joy Division's bass for some reason to me. I tested this patch with my stock Gibson Dusk Tiger. Epiphone ES-175, '92 Fender American Standard Strat, late 70's Electra MPC Vulcan x-940 with Seymor Duncan Invader pickups, 2014 PRS SE-Singlecut, Rickencaker 4003 bass, and Hagstrom Swede bass. I play lightly with Dunlop Jazz 3 pick, so you may have to adjust slightly to your taste. Enjoy! Admin, please delete the duplicate that I posted as it leaves out an important ir detail for the end user.
