Determining Your Setup

The "Setup" filter helps you to focus on those presets best-suited for how you use your Axe-Fx.

FRFR/Direct presets (like all of the Factory presets) are designed for "full-range flat-response" systems such as studio monitors, PAs, headphones, etc.

Pwr. Amp + Cab presets use real power amps and guitar speakers.

4-Cable Method (aka :4CM") presets require a special setup with connectors both in front of and in the effects loop of a real amp.

Fx Loop presets in the loop of a real amp. A loop may be SERIES or PARALLEL and the preset needs to be built accordingly.

Gtr Amp Input presets should be used in front of a (real) head or combo. Guitar->Axe-Fx->Amp Input.

Other setups also exist (e.g. combinations of the above).

The Axe-Fx II manual (chapter three) includes more information about setups.

"Cab" search results ignore the settings of this filter.

Description Snarly Husky Bass Bonko is a bi-amped combination via crossover of the modded Ampeg SVT amp handling the frequencies below 250 Hz and the Hiwatt Brilliant channel of the amp handling everything above 250 Hz. I did this, because one of my pet peeves with distorted bass is that many times in a mix, the distortion seems to eat up the low end of the bass. You will have no problems with that situation when using this preset. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Depending upon the scene and technique along with the cabinet choice and bass, you can get some of the more snarly bass tones of Geddy Lee of Rush, Jason "Moose" Harris or Nelson from New Model Army, or Chris Squire of Yes. Some scenes have more of a dub-bass low end so that you can get the tones of Martin "Youth" Glover of Killing Joke or Jah Wobble in his Public Image Ltd stint. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ There are some filters deployed depending upon the scene to do some tone shaping of the Hiwatt. Chorus and Flanger (both x/y states are viable) are inserted between the Hiwatt amp and Cab 2 so that you get subtle chorus or flanging without the over the top swooshing that distracts from the playing or phase cancels your low end. There is some pitch shift (x/y are viable) and compression along with some heavy limiting employed in scenes 7 and 8 to give you that Jurassic Park Brontosaurus low end without having tracking issues or having the low end muddy up a mix. The FX Loop block is there because that is where I place my Dunlop Crybaby 535 wah if I want to get a little funky or crazy. You can always replace that with one of Fractal's Wah blocks to your taste, if you like the Fractal wah's better, as you have plenty of CPU space in this preset to handle it. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Cab 1 X = the Ampeg SVT Blend found with this recipe here: http://forum.fractalaudio.com/axe-fx-ii-preset-exchange/85010-dr-bonkers-pressts-collection.html#post1104515 OR you can use F113: 4X10+Tweeter SV Bass M 88 to get 90% of the way there without mucking about. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Cab 1 Y = F110 1x15 SV Bass Subkick +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Cab 2 X & Y = 4x12 Beatle Mix found here:: http://forum.fractalaudio.com/axe-fx-ii-discussion/91755-another-ir-present-you.html#post1103480 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I have given you a sample of how all 8 scenes work in a mix context here: https://soundcloud.com/dr-bonkers-1/snarlybassdemo
