Determining Your Setup

The "Setup" filter helps you to focus on those presets best-suited for how you use your Axe-Fx.

FRFR/Direct presets (like all of the Factory presets) are designed for "full-range flat-response" systems such as studio monitors, PAs, headphones, etc.

Pwr. Amp + Cab presets use real power amps and guitar speakers.

4-Cable Method (aka :4CM") presets require a special setup with connectors both in front of and in the effects loop of a real amp.

Fx Loop presets in the loop of a real amp. A loop may be SERIES or PARALLEL and the preset needs to be built accordingly.

Gtr Amp Input presets should be used in front of a (real) head or combo. Guitar->Axe-Fx->Amp Input.

Other setups also exist (e.g. combinations of the above).

The Axe-Fx II manual (chapter three) includes more information about setups.

"Cab" search results ignore the settings of this filter.

Set Up Direct

Description My fav preset for dual inputs Chapman Stick amp. For using it as a two parallel rigs you must set the Axe to stereo with Left channel on the front and Right channel by the rear (2nd) input. To play it with a mono output guitar you can modify the preset by deleting the lower Vol/Pan block (rear input) and cable the former Left Channel input into both Amp blocks. I use one single expression pedal plugged into the rear pedal input and all nifty patch effects are set to follow Modifyer #5. A Mod #5 expression pedal will crossfade between input volume and freezing two poly rhythm delays returns. Delay returns panned around by LFOs for a psychedelic horizon while the direct sound is rather distinct. Reverb block is placed in parallel, set to a dark all wet tone and modulated by input envelope to make it sound a bit like a synth strings pad in the background, much so also due to reverb return through a Chorus Dimension 2. On my MIDI pedalboard I keep switches for Delay Block #1 and #2 X vs Y settings with X set to a short loop and Y to 4 vs 3 bars, so one can perform some fun looping with it. Especially if also using a Mod #5 momentary foot switch. Amp block X clean like sweet chimes and Y overdriven for a hellish howling melody sound. I think that was all.
