Determining Your Setup

The "Setup" filter helps you to focus on those presets best-suited for how you use your Axe-Fx.

FRFR/Direct presets (like all of the Factory presets) are designed for "full-range flat-response" systems such as studio monitors, PAs, headphones, etc.

Pwr. Amp + Cab presets use real power amps and guitar speakers.

4-Cable Method (aka :4CM") presets require a special setup with connectors both in front of and in the effects loop of a real amp.

Fx Loop presets in the loop of a real amp. A loop may be SERIES or PARALLEL and the preset needs to be built accordingly.

Gtr Amp Input presets should be used in front of a (real) head or combo. Guitar->Axe-Fx->Amp Input.

Other setups also exist (e.g. combinations of the above).

The Axe-Fx II manual (chapter three) includes more information about setups.

"Cab" search results ignore the settings of this filter.

Set Up Direct

Description This is the bass preset I use for everything from mellow jazz to hard rock to ambient to whatever. All of the effects are set up to sound good with bass. Notes: This preset doesn't use a cab block. Rather, it uses a filter to filter the low and high frequencies. The first filter in the chain is set for a very mellow, low treble sound that starts filtering off the highs at 451.3 Hz. The second filter is set to start filtering off the highs at 6526 Hz, so it's more open and brighter for slap or general playing. This one is enabled by default. The amp block has X and Y settings for Citrus Bass and the SVT. Citrus is on by default and has the most adjustments done to it. I rarely use the SVT, so adjust it to taste. For a fun effect, turn on the Wah, Phaser, Chorus and MultiTap Delay blocks together. Or you can leave the MTD block off and turn on the DLY and REV blocks instead for a similar but different sound. The enhancer block sounds great when you're playing in headphones along with music. It really helps to blend the bass into the stereo field of the music. For live playing through cabs, you can enable or disable it depending on whatever sounds good to you. The depth is set to 15% because with bass if you set it higher than that there is a noticeable boost on certain notes that throws off the balance of your tone. You can add a cab block if you want, but you'll have to remove one of the other effects, otherwise it'll push the CPU too hard. I'm not a big fan of cab blocks with bass, which is why I use the filters instead. Plus it gives you more freedom to play through real cabs by simply filtering the frequencies and tuning the preset to whatever rig you happen to be using. If you have any questions, you can hit me up in the forums. I'm DLM there as well.
