Determining Your Setup

The "Setup" filter helps you to focus on those presets best-suited for how you use your Axe-Fx.

FRFR/Direct presets (like all of the Factory presets) are designed for "full-range flat-response" systems such as studio monitors, PAs, headphones, etc.

Pwr. Amp + Cab presets use real power amps and guitar speakers.

4-Cable Method (aka :4CM") presets require a special setup with connectors both in front of and in the effects loop of a real amp.

Fx Loop presets in the loop of a real amp. A loop may be SERIES or PARALLEL and the preset needs to be built accordingly.

Gtr Amp Input presets should be used in front of a (real) head or combo. Guitar->Axe-Fx->Amp Input.

Other setups also exist (e.g. combinations of the above).

The Axe-Fx II manual (chapter three) includes more information about setups.

"Cab" search results ignore the settings of this filter.

Set Up Direct

Description This is a heavily compressed chimey/clean tone based on the production style of Tatsuro Yamashita. The amps used are a Fender Deluxe Reverb and a Mesa/Boogie Triaxis (Burg's Maple Syrup Acoustic Simy thing tweaked a little). The cab block is the matching 1x12 Deluxe Reverb cab with a compressor microphone and a 70us tape preamp with the drive cranked (Simulates the saturation from a tape deck). There are two compressors running in serial based on the Universal Audio 1176 (Attack Time of 0.283ms and Release Time of 75ms) and a studio feed-forward compressor setup as a maximizer. In between is a Roland Dimension on setting 3 as well as two reverb blocks. Scene 1 is based on the intro and refrain of the song. It should sound like an acousticy/clean tone in the bridge position. Scene 2 is based on the main guitar parts of the song which has a slight chorus effect. Ideally it should be played on a guitar with a single coil bridge pickup or a bridge humbucker with a coil tap. I made the tone using Fender Standard Telecaster pickups, which are fairly twangy and low output. To simulate rolling off the volume without having to do it directly on the guitar, I lowered the input trim on the amp block. You can tweak it or set to default if desired.
