Determining Your Setup

The "Setup" filter helps you to focus on those presets best-suited for how you use your Axe-Fx.

FRFR/Direct presets (like all of the Factory presets) are designed for "full-range flat-response" systems such as studio monitors, PAs, headphones, etc.

Pwr. Amp + Cab presets use real power amps and guitar speakers.

4-Cable Method (aka :4CM") presets require a special setup with connectors both in front of and in the effects loop of a real amp.

Fx Loop presets in the loop of a real amp. A loop may be SERIES or PARALLEL and the preset needs to be built accordingly.

Gtr Amp Input presets should be used in front of a (real) head or combo. Guitar->Axe-Fx->Amp Input.

Other setups also exist (e.g. combinations of the above).

Description This is a 1 man band Dire Straits preset designed to be used with a looper, specifically targeting the sounds heard in "Six Blade Knife". I basically run my guitar into my AxeFX3, then from the AxeFX3 into a boomerang 3 looper and from there into my PA and FRFR speakers. Demo recorded direct from my PA output here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfxqmldwzwQ It has 5 scenes as follows, and for a live performance, you will want these mapped to an FC controller to easily switch between the instruments. 1. Acoustic Guitar ============== This uses IR's found at http://acousticir.free.fr/spip.php?article58. You will want to download these and load them into the cab block on channel 1. 2. Bass Guitar =========== Just a detuned guitar signal. 3. Knopfler Lead ============= Best approximation I could do for Mark's tone given my guitar (a 1993 Gibson Chet Atkins Tennessean with Fralin P92 pickups). Has all the clicks and clacks for fingerstyle ghost notes on the middle pickup position on this guitar, but might be too bright and need taming if you are using this preset with single coil pickups. 4. Expressive Lead =============== A more gain-heavy lead tone with delay. 5. Drums ======= Mute the strings, fingerpick the low E string for a bass drum sound. Fingerpick the B and high E string for a snare drum sound. This uses a crossover block separating low and high frequencies and works well with the previously mentioned Gibson Chet Atkins Tennessean. Its possible you may need to play with the crossover frequency for it to separate the kick & snare sounds for your guitar & pickups.
