Description Recreating my Tape Echo sound I use in my music. The Volante pedal took over the Tape Echo job from my Roland RE-201 Space Echo and relieved me of the custodial art of maintaining old electromagnetic machines. The improvements of this new magical device are it’s unique stereo image and low noise. I use a single head tape echo with generous regeneration and wow & flutter in my music and combine it with digital delay until it feels like I’m swimming in a lush enveloping atmosphere. On Volante, I use tape head 3 to achieve dotted 8th note echo, or tape head 4 to achieve quarter note echo, while tapping in the time using the tap-tempo footswitch. WEAR, MECHANICS and LOW CUT are set around 11 o’clock on the pedal. Scene 1: Uno – Mono Scene 2: Due – Wide Stereo Scene 3: Tre – Volante’s Unique Stereo Imaging Scene 4: Quattro – Wide Stereo w/brighter echo repeats After experimenting with every tape echo type in the various VP4 blocks, I found that the “Worn Tape” type enabled me to get the closest to the sound of Volante’s TAPE mode. Thank you to Leon Todd and Ian C for enlightening me to modulating the Motor Speed parameter with an LFO modifier to achieve a more accurate tape wow effect.
