Determining Your Setup

The "Setup" filter helps you to focus on those presets best-suited for how you use your Axe-Fx.

FRFR/Direct presets (like all of the Factory presets) are designed for "full-range flat-response" systems such as studio monitors, PAs, headphones, etc.

Pwr. Amp + Cab presets use real power amps and guitar speakers.

4-Cable Method (aka :4CM") presets require a special setup with connectors both in front of and in the effects loop of a real amp.

Fx Loop presets in the loop of a real amp. A loop may be SERIES or PARALLEL and the preset needs to be built accordingly.

Gtr Amp Input presets should be used in front of a (real) head or combo. Guitar->Axe-Fx->Amp Input.

Other setups also exist (e.g. combinations of the above).

The Axe-Fx II manual (chapter three) includes more information about setups.

"Cab" search results ignore the settings of this filter.

Fractal Product Ultra

Firmware Version 11.00

Set Up Direct

Description This is my master FX patch for the Ultra designed for use with the MFC-101 with two external expression pedals. It emulates an old-school pedalboard setup with all the basics ready to go in the one patch. From here, you can just adjust the AMP and CAB blocks to your liking from preset to preset and keep the same basic FX layout across your patches - so you don't have to remember what switch does what when you change patches. It is currently set to a fairly generic 800 patch with user cabs 1 and 2 so you will need to adjust as necessary. Handy for live use if you have your MFC configured to access the usual array of FX. Config can be adjusted easily, but is setup as follows: EXT2 will control both the Wah and Whammy with External Switch 8 rigged to switch between the two effects - may be extra useful for those with only one EXP pedal. My EXT2 has a spring action and is set to auto-engage when depressed. EXT1 will control flanger depth, chorus mix, tremolo rate, and multi-delay mix when those blocks are enabled. My EXT1 is floating without auto-engage. It will only affect those blocks when they are manually enabled via the relevant FX switches. There is also a looper at the end of the chain which I have set to the bottom row of switches when reveal mode is active. The chain looks like this: COMP, PITCH / WAH (switchable Whammy / Wah), RINGMOD (Octave), DRIVE (boost), PEQ4 (mid boost), AMP (adjust to your liking), PHASER, FLANGER, CHORUS, TREM, DELAY1 / MULTIDELAY (can be layered), REVERB (subtle - enabled by default), CAB (stereo user 1 & 2 - adjust to your liking), LOOPER. There is also a separate FX LOOP block which I use as a direct feedthrough for my vocals (from a separate rack unit into my FRFR system). Remember to adjust the AMP block to your liking. Disclaimers: 1. This is the famous patch which 'broke' and corrupted it's own preset file. It wasn't a CPU overload issue, but was found to be due to the old MFC-101 firmware not liking my crazy switchable wah / whammy setup. Cliff fixed the problem in the later MFC firmware and I have had no issues at all since - so make sure you have the latest MFC firmware. 2. I tend to save bits and pieces of patches and FX blocks I like so I can't promise that some components have been taken from other peoples' patches. At the end of the day, this is just a 'template' for what I believe is the most efficient and versatile master patch for live use - so adjust all of the setting within the blocks to your liking. My main input here is the actual pedal and FX config / chain itself. Cheers!
