Determining Your Setup

The "Setup" filter helps you to focus on those presets best-suited for how you use your Axe-Fx.

FRFR/Direct presets (like all of the Factory presets) are designed for "full-range flat-response" systems such as studio monitors, PAs, headphones, etc.

Pwr. Amp + Cab presets use real power amps and guitar speakers.

4-Cable Method (aka :4CM") presets require a special setup with connectors both in front of and in the effects loop of a real amp.

Fx Loop presets in the loop of a real amp. A loop may be SERIES or PARALLEL and the preset needs to be built accordingly.

Gtr Amp Input presets should be used in front of a (real) head or combo. Guitar->Axe-Fx->Amp Input.

Other setups also exist (e.g. combinations of the above).

The Axe-Fx II manual (chapter three) includes more information about setups.

"Cab" search results ignore the settings of this filter.

Fractal Product Axe-Fx II

Firmware Version ARES 2

Set Up Direct

Description A nice representation of Phish 90's era guitar tones based on the Mesa Mark III rig (USA Clean, USA Lead amps used). Scenes 1-4 start off clean in scene 1 and increase gain through scenes 2 and 3 and head into lead territory in scene 4. Scene 1 is a pristine and bright USA Clean tone with tons of headroom and zero breakup. Perfect for earlier clean tones Scene 2 is a moderately-driven TS808 through USA Clean for low gain melodic lines e.g. First Tube, Rift, or Stash. Sounds thick and full with a neck-position medium-output humbucking pickup. Back off guitar volume for more dynamics. Scene 3 is low gain USA Lead amp replicating the Mesa Mark III with a 750Hz mid boost and 6kHz drop in the GEQ; practically opposite the common scooped curve. Overdrive setting on the amp is set low in order to mesh well with the TS808 pedal and avoid artifacts of too much distortion. Scene 4 is TS808 into USA Lead amp overdrive for searing leads. Scenes 5-8 are clones of 1-4 but with a stereo ping-pong delay engaged. Parallel Medium Hall reverb is included in all scenes tucked away in the back for some added depth.
